Depict "Vending Machine" Short Film

Evaluation - Firstly we came up with few storyboard ideas ranging from drama's to comedy's then we all decided on a jokey comedy about a person trying to work a vending machine that is not functioning properly and he gets some help from his friends, it was very challenging to shoot this short film as it involved a trip to the field across from our college as well as filming inside our college. It had taken us around 3 days to record for the short film and we did not shoot the film in the order of the shot list and as we were filming we went quite a bit off what the shot list said. I think this was because we were still coming up with ideas and concepts as we were filming and decided to add/remove a lot of shots.

In our last short film, I opted to work the camera and direct some of the shots but in this short film I was put forth as an actor which I was fine with. It was my first time ever trying to act and it was not as easy as I expected most of the battle was trying not to laugh during shots but even though it took me a couple of times to do some of the shots it was still a remotely enjoyable experience.

After we had finished filming we soon began editing, one of my first jobs was trying to find some suitable royalty free comedy music which took some time, then we looked into adding a green screen effect which also took some time as we were trying to get it perfect. I was surprised with looking back from our first time putting the clips together and after we had finished editing and uploaded it as I found we added a lot of effects to make the short film funnier, this showed me that a lot of comedy in movies is actually added in during the post-production stage.

Some errors we had were that we had to rush a few of shots due to running out of time, also we had issues with the camera battery dying often and the weather was not always being suitable to record in. Some issues with the film itself were I found out after filming that I looked into the camera a few to many times, also we filmed over a 3-day period so there were some clothing errors also with the weather in first part of the film having a dark, gloomy presents to it than the rest looks so super sunny, happy and positive also one thing we decided to add last minute was the green screen effect which looked great but didn't fit the mood of the film as well as I had hoped it would.

With this short film I was not as involved with the editing but I put forward a couple of my ideas and was sure to help where I could. Our main goal when making this short was for it to be as funny as we could make it which we partly succeeded in, we also had a good range of camera shots and I think the music goes fairly well with the short film.

Looking back, I think we did a fairly good job as the idea of the film was not the best and next time I hope me and my group will maybe try a little harder to come up with a better premise. Comparing this short film to my previous one I think this one turned out a lot better, I think this is because we spend more time editing as appose to spending more time on filming, this has shown me how important pre-production and post-production really is and that the recording of a short film is only a small part of the challenge.
