Section 1. The brief
------------------------Questionnaire Answers
Section 1. The brief
a. What was the brief?
The brief consisted of
an idea of someone having a busy, long and energy consuming day filled with
challenging tasks and important activities. Our advert would then proceed to
show someone who has drank our product smashing these tasks and activities with
ease showing that the product is great for low energy people and will help you
when you have busy days and keep you productive.
b. What was your chosen
product and how did you decide, as a group, to choose it?
The product we
decided to choose was PG Tips and we chose this one because it seemed the most
realistic and enjoyable to create.
c. Who is the current
target audience for the product and who did you decide to appeal to? Why?
The target
market we decided to aim towards was around the age group of teenagers to young
adults. We done this because firstly, they would be the easiest group to relate
to as we are around the same age group. Secondly, the product its self which is
an energy giving and motivating drink and teenager and young adults tend to
struggle more with these things compared to middle age/older adults.
Section 2. The finished
product & feedback
a. How did you collect the
feedback (comments from others) on your finished advert from your target
audience? Provide a summary of the main points.
After we finished our advert
we was eager to receive some feedback from our peers and others who were in the
target audience age group. To get a result of what people thought about our
advert we done a questionnaire and made charts and tallies of the
results. From these results we learnt that most people found the advert to be funny and entertaining. Another question we asked the audience was if they saw any major mistakes in our advert
b. Appropriateness to
audience: do you think you managed to get the main message to your target
audience you specified in pre-production. Would the advert have an appropriate
impact on them?
I believe a fairly large part of our message got across to our viewers and target market but not to the full understanding to which I would of wished for. Our goal of showing someone being super hyped and energized was more difficult than I predicted and would be very challenging for any production team to accomplish even with much more resources. Another reason I feel the main message may not have gotten across could be due to us more focusing on the story line, shots and editing than showing how the drink fully effects you which likely blurred the main message we was hoping to send. In terms of how the advert impacted the audience I would say it showed them that the drink gives you a extra amount of energy but nothing about taste, cost, where to by, how it effects health and other things traditional tea adverts try to sell to the consumer. Another point I would like to add is that the major majority of people we showed the advert did not regularly drink tea in the mornings however, most stated that they became very tempted once they watched the advert to start doing so.
c. Think about the technical
and aesthetic qualities of your advertisement. Analyse your use of:
mise-en-scene; camera; editing and sound.
In our advert we used a range of camera movements throughout the advert as we where filming in different locations and scenes includes tracking and zooms. Also we used a few uses of mise-en-scene when changing things like lighting and scenery, we also used a large amount of editing with fast cuts, messing around with different speed velocities, lighting and fade away's. Lastly, we looked over our sound ques which mostly involved a single back track throughout the majority of the advert but it also includes fading and he also had some script that we turned the volume of the music down for.
d. Effectiveness of content:
Do you think your finished advert effectively sells the product to the
specified audience through its story/narrative?
Honestly, me and my group chose a advert that has on the more difficult side of the options we had to chose from. Despite this I believe we did a fairly decent job considering the resources and budget we had, it was also a difficult task that involved all of us doing a little extra work out side of class. Furthermore, I believe we did justice to the target market we was trying to reach out to but mostly the teenager age group as we there in a college doing work and playing football which are pretty standard things for teenagers to do however, we perhaps could of focused a little more on the young adult side of the advert and marketing.
e. What was the effectiveness of the persuasion techniques you used to sell product?
We attempted to show our product giving usually unmotivated, lazy and unenthusiastic person being full of energy and ready to take on all that the day has to offer. There probably is a lot more better situations we could of showed which we didn't think of at the current time but what we did despite to do we show fairly accurately and humorously.
Section 3. Personal Reflection
a. How does the final advertisement compare with your original intentions? Reflect on your documentation, e.g., your storyboards and other pre-production, final advertisement and audience / peer / tutor feedback.
The final advert was not a awful lot like my original idea as we had to adapt it in order for it to fit our budget, production schedule, time-frame, overall skills and resources. Despite this I am happy with the final result even tho its not as close to my original plans as I wished.
b. Self-evaluation: Reflect on how satisfied you are with your final advert. Would you do anything differently if you were to undertake the task again? Finally, evaluate you own involvement in the project.
Looking back on my advert I can clearly see that at points it looks very un-professional and there is a few errors that we missed in post-production. However, I am fairly satisfied with the final product as it was very fun to produce although it didn't meet my first expectations it is still produced to a fairly high standard in my option. If I were to do the task again I would firstly try to make our pre-production schedule more organized and easier to follow, this is due to us getting confused with not being sure on how long each scene should be and what order would be great to shoot them in. Also, I would like to attempted generally filming more stuff as during out time filming this advert we were not very productive with our time and only really shot the bare minimum for are advert.
Lastly, I would like to discuss my involvement in this project, during the pre-production I took the roles of handling the assessment and the questionnaire sheets which both went fairly well, then during filming I adapted to a more director and camera operator role which involved setting up the shots, telling the actors where and when to start the scene and generally ideas on what to film, this was very fun to do and would like to think it went smoothly and made the filming of the advert more consistent and stable. Finally, during the post-production and editing stage I found the music for our advert as well as helping with editing were I could and contributing whenever I could.
